Morning fam,
I know I’m late, beginning my exodus off Facebook. This has been a long time coming. The unchecked power this platform has… people forget they sold their private information. Download your Facebook data, it contains your entire fb history…. every post, click, like, chat, private messages, every photo uploaded, sent or received… going back years, since the day you joined. Information that is used to create a profile that is then sold to the highest bidder.

Being a private company and granting yourself authorization in the fine print of their terms and conditions doesn’t make this ok. As we just saw during election 2020, FBs overreach extends well beyond data. Facebook interfered with the election by controlling the discourse on its platform, by taking sides and censoring information unfavorable to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

FB’s response to the storming of the Capitol is proof of the unchecked power of big tech. Social media platforms operating as digital versions of the public square should not control public discourse, no company should have that type of power. No company should be able to interfere with an election by funneling hundreds of millions of dollars into elections circumventing the will of voters. No company should be able to silence dissenting voices or work in collusion with other companies to kill off competition. Big Tech operating as judge, jury and executioner is dangerous. No industry should have that type of control over speech or competition.
