All-Time High Homicides in Philadelphia Concerns Citizens


Homicides are at an all-time high this year in Philadelphia, far surpassing the city’s previous record in 1990.

As of today, there have been 524 killings in 2021, a 13% jump from the same time last year, according to the city’s police department. In cities like New York, the spike in homicides has largely claimed Black victims.

Between January and November, the overwhelming majority of those killed in Philadelphia were Black.
